Books for the Curious

Inquiring minds want to know, right?

Satisfaction of one’s curiosity is one of the greatest sources of happiness in life.  – Dr. Linus Pauling

Call me curious. Call me nosey. Whatever! I have questions, and I want them answered… especially when I am reading a good book.

Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Why did he say that? What motivated her to respond that way? What happened in this person’s past to cause them to behave a certain way? What were they thinking?  Why didn’t she do this? Why would he do that? So many questions!!!

If you also have an inquiring mind, you may find these books greatly satisfy your curiosity. I did.

The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

As Daniel says in this story, what a difference a day makes! Two teenagers from immigrant families meet. Was their meeting coincidental, or was it fate? Either way, their lives may never be the same because of the connection they make over the course of a single day. What I love most about this book is that it tells the story of each individual person these two main characters come across. It shows how these peripheral characters affect the main characters’ lives and how the main characters’ actions also impact the lives of others. It is incredibly satisfying to know the final fates of all involved.

Did You Ever Have a Family by Bill Clegg

What a beautiful story of how people’s lives intertwine with one another! Even the smallest of encounters can significantly impact lives. This story jumps from character to character every few pages, and it is really neat to see how the small details from each anecdote weave together to form the full picture and complete one bigger story.
