The Christmas season is upon us! With that in mind, I thought I would do something a little different for my blog post this week.
In the spirit of holiday fun, I wrote a letter to Santa. In my letter to Jolly Old Saint Nick, I poke a little fun at the name of my blog and do a lot of wishful thinking.
Oh, and in case you are wondering… Our family really did enjoy a vacation in the Blue Ridge Mountains a few years ago. We rented a luxury cabin (with a hot tub) from High Rock Rentals in the North Carolina town of Black Mountain. And, my children really do still rave about that trip. (You can read about one of our favorite North Carolina day trip adventures here: Exploring the Waterfalls Byway.)
Season’s Greetings and Happy Reading!
Dear Santa
November 28, 2019
Dear Santa,
It’s been a few years since our amazing vacation in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. And yet, the kids are still talking about it. In fact, they talk about it a lot.
For Christmas this year, I would love to treat my kids to another trip to the mountains.
How cozy would that be to sit by the warm fireplace in a log cabin admiring views of mountains, stars and gently falling snow?
How amazing would it be to see the Biltmore Estate all decked out in festive decorations for the holidays?
How cute would all the small mountain towns look with their Main Streets lit up by holiday lights?
What a sight it must be to see some of the North Carolina waterfalls frozen over!
How fun would it be to do our holiday shopping in the amazing mountaintop city of Asheville?
Yes, my children would love a wintertime trip back to the mountains!
There’s just one problem though. There is no way our minivan would make it up those steep winding mountain roads. And, Santa, that is where I need your help.
Could you get me a new vehicle for Christmas this year, Santa? It needs four wheel drive to make it through the ice and snow on those mountain roads. Oh, and we are a family of five… so it would need to be a big vehicle. And, while you are at it, heated leather seats would be nice. (I hear the mountains of North Carolina can be quite cold in the winter.) A sunroof might be nice, too.
I know this is a lot to ask for… but it’s for my children, Santa. Please consider it for their sake.
Okay, okay… I know, I know. The truth is that this gift is as much for me as it is for my children. Probably even more for me than for them. But, hey, it’s difficult to feel cool while driving a minivan. Plus, this mama could really use a vacation this holiday season.
Think about all the joy it would bring me (and my children, of course) if you upgraded my minivan to a big shiny new luxury SUV. Have I mentioned that I’ve been really, really good this year?
In our mountaintop log cabin, we would spend happy hours eating home cooked meals, playing board games and exploring the mountainside. After the kids went to bed, hubby and I would admire the starry skies from the hot tub. (Did I mention that we would be staying in a luxury log cabin?)
Please consider it.
Sincerely, April
P.S. If a shiny new SUV under our Christmas tree is too much to ask for, then could I borrow a couple of your magical reindeer? We would still like to go on that vacation, and to do that we will need something to pull our minivan up those mountain roads!
What are you asking Santa for this year?
Thank you for reading my letter to Santa! If you happen to have any pull with the big guy, please put in a good word for me!
By the way, what are you asking for this Christmas?

I hope Santa comes through! Jeff and I often talk about a trip to Pigeon Forge during Thanksgiving week. Maybe next year. We’ve driven around the Asheville area a couple of times, but we haven’t been to the Biltmore. It’s on my list! My parents just got back from a bus trip there. Oh, to be retired!
Ha! I have a feeling Santa won’t be coming through for us this year. A mom can always dream though, right? I’ve been to Biltmore twice now but never during the holiday season. I think it would be dreamy to see it all decked out for the holidays! Someday…
