If you remember from previous posts, my kids and I have been reading the Narnia books together. We are calling it our Narnia Book Club.

Well, having finished reading Prince Caspian together, we just had our second book club meeting.

Prince Caspian Book Club Decorations

Many years ago, we had a Princesses and Pirates themed birthday party for my daughter. So I pulled out a few of those royal decorations for our Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia book club meeting. Easy-peasy! Decorations done!

Some other DIY (or affordable) decorations could be:

Prince Caspian-Themed Activities

We kept the activities much more simple than we did for our first Narnia Book Club meeting. This time, our activities included coloring sheets and making princely crowns from construction paper.

You could also consider roasting apples together just like the Pevensie children eat while in the ruins of Cair Paravel. Or, maybe a sword fight just like the duel between King Peter and Miraz (except with foam swords).

And, of course, we watched the Prince Caspian movie after our book club meeting.

Other fun activities might include:

Book Club Snacks

The foods that really stood out from the Prince Caspian book was bear meat (the Pevensie children and Trumpkin stuff their pockets with handfuls of raw bear meat in case they need food during their journey) and apples.

An apple and some gummy bears make perfect snacks for your Prince Caspian book club meeting. With that in mind, I provided the following two snacks for my book club meeting with the kids:

  • Handfuls of (gummy) bears
  • Apples

Perfect, right?

Prince Caspian Book Discussion Questions

Here is a short list I compiled of family-friendly questions about The Return to Narnia: Prince Caspian book. Feel free to use this as a discussion guide for your own Prince Caspian book club meeting.

  1. Tell us one thing you liked or disliked about the story.
  2. The Pevensie children were how and tired as thry trudged along in Narnia, and this seemed to make them all kind of grouchy. Do you get grouchy when you are hot and tired, too?
  3. Did you realize that the children had found the ruins of Cair Paravel before they did?
  4. The Pevensie children ate roasted apples with sugar. What are your favorite ways to eat apples? (Example: apple slices, apple sauce, apple pie, etc.)
  5. When Trumpkin the dwarf first met the Pevensie children, why didn’t he think they would be able to help?
  6. Why didn’t the others believe Lucy when she claimed to have seen Aslan trying to lead them up the gorge?
  7. Why couldn’t the others see Aslan at first?
  8. Nikabrik had “gone sour” since the days of Old Narnia. Why do you think that was?
  9. Were you surprised when Miraz’s own men turned against him? Why did they do that?
  10. How would you describe Reepicheep when you first met him in the story? How would you describe Reepicheep at the end of the story?
  11. Why did the Telmarines fear the woods and the sea?
  12. Why was Aslan convinced that Caspian would be a good king for Narnia even though Caspian claimed to feel insufficient for the job?
  13. Aslan told Peter and Susan that they won’t be returning to Narnia. Why do you think they won’t be returning even though Edmund and Lucy will?

Enjoy Your Narnia Book Club Meeting!

Doesn’t this Narnia Book Club meeting sound like fun? So simple, too! I can’t wait for our next book club gathering after we read The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (which happens to be my favorite Narnia book).
