Returning to “Up North” Michigan

You guys! I am so excited. We booked FOUR vacations for this year!!!! (Note the use of four exclamation points – one for each of our vacations!)

And TWO of our vacations are Up North in Michigan. (If you don’t understand how special “Up North” is to us Michiganders, please see this post about the Up North State of Mind from Monica In The Muse.)

UP NORTH MICHIGAN | What to do and where to go in northern Michigan and the upper peninsula
Headed Up North in Michigan? We are, too!

If you follow my blog, then you already know that I love visiting northern Michigan. The Minivan Adventures blog already has several posts about Up North Michigan destinations.

Now, I am looking forward to updating all of these posts and adding several more!

What are your favorite things to do in Up North Michigan?
Mackinac Bridge is an iconic symbol of Michigan’s Up North.

Northward Bound

For our first Up North trip, we visited the upper peninsula – the land of colorful lake shores, waterfalls, copper mines, and all sorts of other natural wonders. While we were there, we did all of our favorite family-friendly U.P. activities.

  • Munising
  • Houghton
  • Paradise
  • Kitch-iti-kipi Big Springs
  • and more!

Our second Up North trip will be in the northernmost sections of the lower peninsula where we intend to spend time in Charlevoix, Petoskey, Boyne, and Alpena. We plan to explore waterfalls, tour a lavender farm, enjoy the beach and ride the Historic Ironton Ferry. We will probably squeeze in a day trip to the upper peninsula as well.

What should we see and do on our trips to Up North Michigan?

I have created a loose itinerary for our next northern Michigan vacation already but I would love to hear from you… in case I’ve overlooked something amazing. We don’t want to miss out on any “Pure Michigan” fun!

    1. As a former park ranger, I bet there is a lot of stuff you would love about “Up North” Michigan. I can’t wait to hear what you think of our vacation destinations as we share them in future posts.

  1. As I’ve mentioned before, my husband really wants us to take a vacation to Michigan. I’m gaining interest. I’d especially like a visit to Mackinac Island. Can’t wait to read about and see your family adventures this summer!!!!

    1. Guilty Michigander Confession: I haven’t been to Mackinac Island since I was about 5 years old. It was fun though. We rode bicycles around the island, and I remember being impressed with the many horse drawn carriages. I need to get out there again sometime soon!
