How Family Movie Fridays Movie Nights Work

Every month, we will select a child-friendly movie for us to all watch together (separately from our own homes). Movie selections will always be announced at least 2 weeks ahead of time.

On the designated Friday evening, you gather up everyone in your household, maybe pass out a few snacks, and start playing the movie at 7pm ET (6pm CT).

And, hey, if you are on social media, join us on Twitter or Facebook for some fun movie discussion along the way. Use the #FamilyMovieFridays hashtag to find the Twitter party. On Facebook, you can join the discussion in our Family Movie Fridays Community. We encourage you to share insights, post about your favorite movie moments and answer a few questions throughout the movie.

After the movie ends, pop over to the Family Movie Fridays Twitter account for more movie discussion. The #FamilyMovieFridays Twitter chat starts at 9pm ET.

How Family Movie Fridays Twitter Chats Work

Every Friday evening, we host a chat on Twitter about movies at 9pm ET (8pm CT).

To participate, all you have to do is hop onto Twitter and check our Family Movie Fridays Twitter account (or check our #FamilyMovieFridays hashtag). Answer the questions and/or reply to the responses of others. It’s super fun!

DID YOU KNOW  that Family Movie Fridays has a Facebook Community, too?Our welcoming community discusses all things related to family-friendly movies. Seven days a week!

Why Should You Join Us For Family Movie Fridays?

Community! We all struggle at times to feel connected with others. This is a fun (and safe) way to connect with others.

Connection! Shared experiences and conversations can be an excellent foundation for connecting with others. Family Movie Fridays is kind of a twofer. You can connect with two groups – your immediate family and the outside world – with these fun movie experiences.

Scrolling Encouraged. The social media aspects mean that there is no need to put your devices away (unlike when you see movies in the theater). This makes it more fun for us adults who are used to multi-tasking and may find it difficult to pay full attention to the movie.

Intentional Quality Time. Sometimes, when we leave quality time up to impulse, we just never get around to it. These events are pre-scheduled; this is a way to be intentional about spending quality time together.

Snacks! Family Movie Fridays is a great reason to snack on popcorn, candy or other yummy treats.

No FOMO. Unlike at the theaters (where the show must go on even when you need a restroom break or a drink refill), viewing the movie from your own home means that you have access to a pause button. So go ahead and hit pause anytime you need to. Point out small details, share a related anecdote, refill your popcorn bowl or use the restroom… without missing a single movie moment. No FOMO (fear of missing out)!

There's no need to turn off your devices for Family Movie Fridays! Join our Twitter party.

Join Our Community, Too!

Family Movie Fridays also has its own Facebook community that chats all things related to family-friendly movies (and TV). We laugh together, share our movie opinions, discuss new releases, reminisce about our own favorite movies from childhood and enjoy monthly movie nights as a group.

See You at the Movies (and on Social Media)!

  1. This is such an awesome idea, especially considering how isolated we all have been. Also, you picked an excellent film to start with. I saw Toy Story in the theater when it came out, and it still blows my mind. While I don’t have kids, I still watch every Pixar movie that comes out, and I even still watch a lot of Disney and Pixar movies with my parents lol. So I’ll definitely be participating!

    1. Yayyyy! I’m glad to hear that you will be joining us. Isn’t Toy Story great? I told my kids what our movie selection was, and they jumped up and down with excitement! That’s how I knew we had picked a winner.
